Preventative Maintenance on Your Solar Panels
For your solar panels to maintain their full potential, it is recommended they be cleaned 3 to 4 times a year. Through research, it has been revealed that solar panels can lose as much as 25% – 35% of their energy production due to them collecting dirt/debris i.e., leaves, bird droppings, dust etc. If one panel is not working effectively, it will affect all the panels in that string, causing a reduction in the system’s energy production. The photos above display the hotspots using a Thermal Camera. As you can see, dirt on the solar panel has created a hotspot of 28.8°C and the temp around the area is slightly lower at 18.8°C. The dirtier the panel the hotter the hotspot will become. Once we’ve cleaned the panels, the camera picks up the regular temperature expected on the panels. These photos were taken on a cold winter’s day. Higher temperatures are expected during the summer months.
